Ducks

Our three Indian Runner Ducks! Waffles, Wabble, and yes, Jimbo, are all girls. They are laying now. Waffles and Wabble are odd ducks – sometimes they go back into their duckhouse and sit on their eggs. Even after we took the eggs from the house, Waffles still sat there, squeaking and looking down at her nest, pretending that she had ducklings. They were born on May 13th, 2010, and were bought at 2 hours old, and were the size of cotton balls curled up in the palm of your hand. They are very cartoonish and cute. They love swimming and eating worms.

Jimbo: Pure white, like a snowflake. Jimbo is loud, tall, and is ninja when it comes to getting food out of your hands when you least expect it. She enjoys swimming the pond with Waffles, and eating alfalfa buds that we throw into the water for them. She gives the appearance of a walking, quacking bowling pin.

Wabble: Brown and white. She is timid and small compared to Jimbo and Waffles. She is usually much quieter than them, as well, and spends quite a lot of her time off by herself when the other two are together.

Waffles Syrup: Black and white. She is the most noisy, loud, and bossy duck of them all (although, Jimbo isn’t fooled by her bossiness). Waffles is a little friendlier than the other ducks, and will often come up to us and just hang around. She has big, black, innocent eyes, and sometimes reminds me of an odd-looking penguin.

We also used to have a male duck named Rodney (we called him Roddle). Since he was doing inappropriate things to the others, and driving them further and further away from us in his protective manner, we eventually decided we had to give him away to a different small farm. He now lives happily with a new family, just down the road from us!
